Safe Kids

CBIRT partnered with the Washington chapter of Safe Kids to develop a series of virtual educational modules designed to help parents prevent and manage traumatic brain injury and other common childhood injuries. Created in collaboration with child safety experts and informed by parent input, the modules focus on the everyday activities where children are most often hurt — such as riding bikes, playing sports, and using playgrounds — and provide practical, actionable steps parents can take to keep their children safe.

The modules are hosted on the Safe Kids Washington website and cover topics including Sports Safety, Bike Safety, and Water Safety. Each module takes approximately 5–10 minutes to complete and includes information about preventable injuries, real-world examples, safety guidelines, quizzes and flashcard activities, and downloadable fact sheets with links to additional resources. The content is designed to be brief, accessible, and immediately applicable for parents of young children.

To assess the impact of this resource, the Safe Kids Study evaluates the effect of the website on parents' knowledge, attitudes, self-efficacy, and behavioral intention toward applying the safety skills presented in the modules. This research aims to ensure the modules are not only informative but effective in supporting meaningful changes in how parents approach child safety.
